Goldberg has opened up about receiving a prestigious WWE accolade and how he does not feel it was entirely deserved.
Recognised for his contributions to wrestling in 2018, the former World Champion was the headline inductee in the 2018 Hall of Fame class. Although Goldberg became one of the biggest homegrown WCW stars in the history of the company and went on to have a memorable career in WWE, he does not look back on the night as fondly.
Appearing on Busted Open Radio, the Hall of Famer looked back on the night itself and admitted that it was not as enjoyable as it could have been, adding that it was never his goal in life to be inducted into a professional wrestling Hall of Fame:
“There’s so much of a responsibility on a night like that. I didn’t have as much fun as I should’ve had, because I never really live in the moment. For so many people who have dedicated their lives to the craft, I always will forever feel guilty that I get any accolade.”
Prior to signing with WCW, the former World Champion looked to make it in the NFL before an injury cut his gridiron dreams short. Continuing, the Hall of Famer stated that although he never planned to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame it meant more to him than receiving the same accolade in the NFL:
“My goal was to do it in the NFL and it got cut short. I found out that being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame was bigger for the goal that I wanted to accomplish than ever being in the NFL Hall of Fame.”
Unlikely Promoter Wants Goldberg To Compete
Despite being out of the ring for over 2 years, the former World Champion has not explicitly stated that he has competed in his final match. While it is unknown when or if Goldberg will step back in the ring one final time, one promoter has listed the Hall of Famer as a dream participant in an unlikely setting.
