According to a new report, GM Mode is set to return in WWE 2K22 for the first time in over a decade.
The mode last appeared in a WWE game 14 years ago, under the guise of ‘WWE 24/7 mode’ in SmackDown vs RAW 2008. However, a new report from Michael Straw of Sports Gamers Online, suggests that it could be returning.
Straw noted that a source told him that it had “long been a desire” of the development team as well as fans to bring GM Mode back. With the game taking a year off in 2020, this presented the perfect opportunity for it to return in WWE 2K22.
The report states that one source told SGO that it was a top priority to bring the mode back.
“It was a top priority. The fans clearly wanted it, and the team knew that they add the ammo to get it approved and in.”
GM Mode allows players to take control of one WWE brand and attempt to establish it as the dominant WWE program. Through the game the player is in control of booking and financial decisions which ultimately decide the success of their brand.
The report from Straw also contains comments from those who have already tested the mode in WWE 2K22. With one source saying “It’s going to become the most played mode in the game, I can say that with certainty.” While another added, “The mode will sell this game.”
This will be the first game to be released in the WWE 2K series since WWE 2K21 in October 2019 which received a 43% rating on metacritic compared to the previous instalment, WWE 2K19, which garnered 76%.
In April 2020 it was confirmed that there would be no annual WWE simulation game for the first time since the year 2000. The shelved WWE 2K21 was replaced by WWE 2K Battlegrounds.
WWE 2K22 is currently set to be released in March 2022.
