Gisele Shaw has discussed why she’ll become PROGRESS Women’s Champion at Chapter 111 and called out Charlotte Flair as a potential future challenger!
During a recent media call ahead of her match for the vacant PROGRESS Women’s Championship at Chapter 111, Inside The Ropes‘ own Innes McVey asked Shaw about her unsuccessful attempt to capture the gold at Chapter 102 in a triple threat with Dani Luna & then-champion Jinny and why this time will be different.
‘The Quintessential Diva’ discussed her change in attitude between then and now in her response and claimed that PROGRESS had tried to push her aside whilst elevating her opponent.
“Well, the difference between the Gisele then and now is I was nice then. Obviously, the world went into hiatus, fine, but that’s not my fault when the company forgets about me. The difference is now I’m going to make sure that nobody forgets about me. You can’t just push me to the side and pick up someone else and say ‘You know what? We’re done with you.’ No! I get to say when I’m done with you, not the other way around.”
The Filipina star also gave an insight into who she’d like to defend the belt against should she become champion, calling out Charlotte Flair and goading ‘The Queen’ to “try and take this belt” from her!
“I’ll defend it with whoever, anywhere, any time. And specifically, I did call out Charlotte Flair yesterday at The Bump because she walks around saying she’s ‘The Queen’. Well, you know what? I am ‘The Quintessential Diva’ and she’s never been to PROGRESS. She says she’s the best of the best. You know what? Come at me and try and take this belt away from me.”
In a recent interview with Inside The Ropes, Kanji spoke about her desire to hold the belt until former champion Jinny was able to return to the promotion and challenge her – if she defeats Shaw for the title at Chapter 111!
“If I was to win, I would fight so hard to make sure I keep the belt until Jinny comes so I can give her the match that I wanted in the beginning after winning that Thunderbastard. Because that feeling I had after winning the Thunderbastard knowing that I would wrestle Jinny for the belt, I still want that. So if I was to win, that is the one thing I would do. I would be a fighting champion to make sure I held it until Jinny came back.”
Gisele Shaw is set to face Kanji in the final of their Best of Three series to determine the new PROGRESS Women’s Champion at Chapter 111: One Leg In The Air, streaming live via Peacock and the WWE Network at 5pm BST on May 22nd. The show will also be available on-demand at Demand PROGRESS.
