Gillberg Claims Goldberg Is Stopping Him From Getting Merchandise

Duane Gill, better known as Gillberg has claimed that WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg is preventing him from having any merchandise.

While Goldberg was racking up the wins and climbing the ladder to superstardom in WCW, Duane Gill was hovering around the lower end of the card in the WWF. However, as Goldberg hit the peak of his popularity in 1999, Gill was given a new moniker which stays with him to this day.

Known as Gillberg, the character was positioned purely to be a parody of WCW’s Goldberg. Gill wrestled in the same gear, copied Goldberg’s entrance, with sparklers rather than pyro, parodied Goldberg’s mannerisms and had piped in “Gillberg” chants played any time he appeared.

The character was short on wins, but a jab which didn’t sit well with Goldberg and WCW at the time.

Appearing on the Who The Fook Are These Guys podcast, Gill boldly claimed that the animosity held by his illustrious counterpart is the reason he isn’t included in WWE merchandise or video games.

“He [Goldberg] doesn’t like me at all. I can’t say for sure, but that’s why I don’t have action figures, I don’t have T-shirts, I’m not in the video games… somebody has a thumb on top of me,”

Despite being nothing more than a comedy character during his time with WWE, Gillberg still managed to win the Light-Heavyweight Championship. Although he left the company in 2000, he has continued to make a series of special appearances as his Gillberg character.
