Former Attitude Era star Gangrel made his AEW debut on Friday night as The Young Bucks mocked their reputation as Hardy Boyz cosplayers.
Gangrel made a splash in the late nineties WWE where he is best remembered for forming The Brood with Edge and Christian. However, after the Canadian duo split from the vampiric star he briefly formed The New Brood with another young, up-and-coming tag team, The Hardy Boyz.
On AEW Rampage on Friday night, the crowd in Las Vegas came to their feet when Matt and Jeff Hardy’s music hit, only for the cheers to turn to boos as The Young Bucks emerged dressed as The Hardys, with Nick resplendent in Jeff Hardy facepaint.
The Young Bucks weren’t done there however in their mockery of their Double Or Nothing opponents, The Hardys, as they ripped down a black curtain revealing Gangrel, who accompanied them to the ring for their match against Jon Cruz and Taylor Rust. The Bucks picked up the win after using The Hardys’ Twist of Fate and Swanton Bomb before they cruelly attacked Gangrel after the bout.
The Hardys then emerged and attempted a double Twist of Fate on the Jackson brothers, but Brandon Cutler – who was dressed as Lita – intervened only to suffer an Impaler DDT from Gangrel, before The Hardys used their trademark moves on The Elite’s associate stooge.
Gangrel has previously discussed an earlier appearance on AEW Dynamite being abandoned because of Edge resurrecting The Brood’s entrance and ‘Broodbaths’ on WWE television.
