Gable Steveson won’t be back on WWE screens for the time being.
The Olympic gold medalist has only wrestled once for WWE despite signing with the company amidst much fanfare back in 2021. Steveson has a remarkable amateur wrestling pedigree, and it’s been confirmed he’s preparing to add to it.
It’s been announced that the star will compete at the 2023 World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia which take place between September 16th and 24th. The news means that Steveson is unlikely to be back on WWE screens until late September/early October at the earliest.
You can find the release from United World Wrestling below.
“At 125kg, Gable STEVESON (USA) is set to return after a substantial absence. The 21-year-old sensation made waves at the Tokyo Olympic Games, stunning the wrestling community with his triumph. He managed to defeat now-reigning world champion Taha AKGUL (TUR) and three-time world champion Geno PETRIASHVILI (GEO) en route to Olympic glory. Following his Olympic gold, Steveson took a brief retirement from wrestling to pursue a career in WWE. However, he has since added another Olympic gold to his aspirations.”
Nobody Talking About Gable Steveson In WWE
Steveson made his in-ring debut at the Great American Bash against Baron Corbin but was booed and jeered throughout. This was despite being presented as a babyface against long-time heel Corbin.
Following the match it was reported it was “all quiet” with regard to Gable Steveson, and no one was talking about the star backstage. This was coupled with a great deal of uncertainty about his WWE future.
In recent news, Dave Meltzer revealed that Gable Steveson has been removed from the NXT roster.
