Although he’s still to have a match of his own, Gable Steveson has made his presence felt in NXT.
On July 4th, Raw Underground made its own journey to WWE developmental and played host to the clash between Eddy Thorpe and Damon Kemp. The match came with the added wrinkle that Olympic Gold Medalist Gable Steveson played a role in training Thorpe for the contest. Kemp is also Steveson’s real-life brother, although that hasn’t been acknowledged on television.
On the night, Thorpe grabbed the win via referee’s stoppage following a Triangle Choke, sparking celebration between himself and Steveson.
After the match, a number of the NXT trainees who had been surrounding the action stepped to Steveson one by one and all got huge Suplexes for their troubles.
Elsewhere on the show, Kelani Jordan picked up a win on debut, Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams laid down a challenge for the Judgment Day, and The Creeds lost out to The Dyad, meaning they’re now banished from NXT.
Gable Steveson’s WWE Future Remains Uncertain
Gable Steveson signed with WWE amid much fanfare but has since found his appearances on television limited, despite being publicly drafted to Raw in 2021. In recent weeks it was reported that the Olympic Gold Medalist will be returning to the amateur ranks and hopes to compete at the Olympics in 2024.
Although there had been reports of Steveson not progressing as quickly as WWE had hoped, in more recent days reports have emerged suggesting the company now feels he’s exceeding expectations.
