Gable Steveson, the Olympic gold medallist turned WWE Superstar, recently made an appearance in the July 4 NXT underground match between Eddy Thorpe and Damon Kemp.
The match saw Thorpe defeat Kemp, and Steveson physically engaging in the WWE NXT for the first time by suplexing many of the athletes in the NXT Underground arena.
In a clip aired on WWE NXT’s July 11 episode, Steveson admits that his future is still uncertain, as he wants to pursue another national title and compete for another Olympic gold medal in freestyle wrestling at the 2024 Olympics. Although he stated he also loves being part of WWE.

Gable Steveson’s Amateur Wrestling Background
Steveson, started wrestling at a young age and as a 13-year-old Steveson reached the 195-pound state finals, with an impressive record of 39-2, but he was defeated in the final claiming second place.
Steveson went from strength to strength in wrestling and went on to represent the United States at the 2020 Olympic games in Tokyo where he won a gold medal in the 125kg category.
Steveson made an initial retirement from amateur wrestling in March 2022 after winning his second consecutive national title at 285 pounds for the University of Minnesota and joined WWE. However, the wrestler underwent a heart procedure and now feels that he has some unfinished business in amateur wrestling.
WWE has permitted Steveson to compete in some upcoming freestyle competitions and he made his return at the 2023 US Open Wrestling Championships, going on to win the tournament.
Steveson’s future in amateur wrestling is still up in the air, but he remains optimistic about his chances of success in both amateur wrestling and in the professional ranks with WWE. Fans will have to wait and see what the future holds for this multi-talented athlete.
