Fyter Fest Night One Card Announced With 2 Title Matches

Fyter Fest Jon Moxley Karl Anderson

AEW is following up their Road Rager show with a stacked card for the first night of Fyter Fest with multiple matches announced for the 14th of July show.

Fyter Fest night one will be the company’s first show outside of Florida in well over a year as AEW emerges from the pandemic era. The event will take place in the Greater Austin area of Cedar Park, Texas, and is already a sell-out.

That packed Texas crowd will see two title matches as Jon Moxley once again defends his IWGP United States Championship on AEW television against Karl Anderson. Anderson used to be a stalwart in New Japan Pro Wrestling, helping form Bullet Club before moving onto WWE with tag team partner Doc Gallows. This will be Moxley’s first appearance on AEW since the birth of he and wife Renee Paquette’s baby daughter.

The FTW Title will also be on the line as Team Taz continues towards a complete meltdown. ‘Absolute’ Ricky Starks will take part in his first match in nearly three months as he challenges Brian Cage for the title. Starks was shown at AEW Road Rager with his own security as he made derogatory comments towards Cage. Taz was unhappy at Starks’ display but Cage was furious and emerged from the locker room to take out the security detail.

Penelope Ford will compete against the returning Japanese star, ‘The Magical Girl’ Yuka Sakazaki. Sakazaki’s last matches for AEW came in the AEW Women’s World Title Eliminator Tournament where she lost in the semi-final to compatriot Ryo Mizunami.

A twenty-plus-year rivalry will also be rekindled at Fyter Fest as Christian Cage goes one-on-one with Matt Hardy. The two men redefined tag team wrestling during the Attitude Era with their incredible ladder matches and TLC offerings. Now Hardy has the Hardy Family Office behind him as Cage looks to outwork his wily rival in the ring.

The postponed Coffin Match between Ethan Page and Darby Allin will take place on night one of Fyter Fest. Page had called off the match originally set for Road Rager after Allin attacked him the week before. The rivals sat down for a tense face-to-face chat with Jim Ross at Road Rager with Allin unable to put his hands on Page lest the match be postponed again.

AEW is also advertising that the fans will hear from ‘Hangman’ Adam Page at the event. The clamour is growing for the anxious millennial cowboy to get his shot at the AEW World Championship against his former tag team partner Kenny Omega.
