The master of the tornado DDT Fuego Del Sol will be bringing his fire to All Elite Wrestling full-time after earning a contract with the company.
Del Sol had been a featured part of the company during the pandemic era when the company produced shows exclusively from Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida. Although Fuego Del Sol was mainly used on AEW Dark and AEW Dark: Elevation he built up quite the online following as he was featured on Sammy Guevara’s vlog and The Young Bucks’ Being The Elite.
The unsigned luchador from Alabama was one of only six stars to compete on the inaugural edition of AEW Rampage. In the second of three title matches on Rampage Fuego Del Sol fought Miro for the TNT Championship. Del Sol got off to the perfect start, nailing The Redeemer with three tornado DDTs but Miro was undeterred. It was soon Game Over for Del Sol and his chances of winning the TNT Title and a contract with the company were seemingly up in smoke.
Shortly thereafter Sammy Guevara and AEW President Tony Khan made their way to the stage where Khan handed Guevara a clipboard with some papers attached. To the delight of the Pittsburgh crowd in attendance Guevara broke the news to an emotional Del Sol that despite his loss, he was now All Elite.
Also on the first episode of AEW Rampage, Christian Cage defeated Kenny Omega for the IMPACT World Championship, taking both that and the TNA Title belt from the Belt Collector. The two men will meet again in a matter of weeks at All Out where Cage will challenge for the AEW World Title.
In the night’s main event, hometown hero Dr. Britt Baker DMD retained the AEW Women’s World Championship against Red Velvet. After the bout, Baker continued the assault on Velvet which brought potential title challenger Kris Statlander to the ring to make the save. In return Jamie Hayter made her return to AEW, attacking Statlander and seemingly aligning herself with Baker.
