FTR Open Up About How Wrestling Has Shaped And Saved Their Lives

FTR

The Pinnacle’s Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood – FTR – have talked about how wrestling has been their salvation and how they want to give back to the industry that has given them so much.

Harwood and Wheeler left WWE of their own volition in April 2020. One month later they debuted in All Elite Wrestling as FTR, soon aligning with the legendary Tully Blanchard.

At All Out in September the team won the AEW Tag Team Titles from Kenny Omega and Hangman Page. FTR then billed themselves as Grand Slam Tag Team Champions as they have held AEW, NXT, Raw, and SmackDown tag team gold – the only team to achieve that feat.

Now the duo has joined up with MJF, Shawn Spears, and Wardlow as part of The Pinnacle. The group shocked the world when they debuted together, taking out Chris Jericho and his Inner Circle.

FTR discussed their feelings on the wrestling business with Metro.co.uk. Cash Wheeler began by revealing that his life could have taken a much darker path had it not been for wrestling.

Wheeler explained:

“I feel like we owe wrestling so much. We had nothing growing up. I can tell you now that if it wasn’t for wrestling – I come from a family of addicts and I would have went that path. It was the easiest path and the one that I knew other than wrestling. If I didn’t have something to hold onto and grasp at to lead me in a different direction I would be…not good.”

“I know that for a fact, because one of my best friends is not here with us anymore because of something like that. I was going in that same direction. Without wrestling, who knows? I wanna leave it better than I found it because I owe it everything.”

Dax Harwood then went on to discuss the team’s legacy in the wrestling business. Harwood noted that the Top Guys aren’t going to still be competing in long attraction matches well past their prime.

Harwood stated:

“We left [WWE] together because of our legacy and we started in AEW because of our legacy, and that’s a very important thing to us. But our job is also to make sure that when we’re done and we hang it up, everybody that we worked with is better than we were before.”

“This might get me a little heat, but Cash can tell ya I don’t give a damn about heat. We’re not gonna be the guys at 45, 50 years old, and 50 plus who think that we need to go out there and still have 30-minute matches and beat everybody. That’s not us. We want to give back.”

The Pinnacle will face Inner Circle on Wednesday 5th of May in Blood and Guts. MJF’s group claimed the advantage for themselves during a parley on AEW Dynamite. This means they will have the one-man advantage for most of Blood and Guts, where the aim is to make your opponents submit or surrender.
