2022 has been a banner year for Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler of FTR. The pair are the current IWGP Tag Team Champions, AAA World Tag Team Champions and Ring of Honor World Tag Team Champions with a string of acclaimed bouts behind them.
Harwood has also branched out into becoming a respected singles performer, and will undoubtedly appear in many ‘Wrestler of the Year’ lists. However, in recent weeks FTR have found their momentum slowed in AEW, despite seemingly being in-line for a shot at tag team gold. While it appears that a showdown with The Acclaimed is the likely direction, some feel that the move has come too late, and the challengers aren’t as hot as they once were.
FTR Weighing Up Their Options
Speaking in a new interview with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp, Dax Harwood discussed the future for the team, revealing that they may even take a year to work on the independent scene. During the conversation Harwood revealed that their contracts will expire in April 2023, and the pair have been considering what comes next. Harwood added that having the chance to work for various indies and outside of major companies has given them an appreciation for how much they love that side of the business.
Interestingly, it was reported back in September that WWE had “sent out feelers” to FTR as well as a number of other AEW performers. The report noted that WWE also tried to re-sign the duo while Vince McMahon was still at the helm. Attempts were also made to contact Swerve Strickland.
Dax Harwood signed with WWE in 2012 where he was joined by Cash Wheeler two years later. Alongside Wheeler, the pair known as The Revival, became the company’s first ever ‘Triple Crown’ Tag Team Champions, winning the NXT, Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Championships.
The pair were released by WWE in April 2020, debuting in AEW the following month.
