Fred Rosser (FKA Darren Young) Signs With New Japan

By Liam Wyatt. Published 15th June 2021.

‘Mr No Days Off’ Fred Rosser has signed an exclusive agreement with New Japan Pro Wrestling.

Taking to Twitter to announce the news, Rosser also noted a funny coincidence in that six years prior, he and fellow Prime Time Player Titus O’Neil had won the WWE Tag Team Championships, which they went on to hold for 70 days.

I’m excited to officially announce I’ve signed W/ NJPW! All I can say moving forward is, don’t ever let your dreams just be dreams because as long as you’re patient & believe in your dreams, anything is possible. Formerly known as Darren Young in the WWE, Rosser had been working for New Japan since September 2020, appearing regularly as part of their weekly show, New Japan Strong.

He made an immediate impression on the fledging US arm of the cerulean blue, featuring in the New Japan Cup USA 2021 tournament, as well as developing a heated rivalry with the hulking Hikuleo.

Whilst yet to win gold in the promotion, Rosser did come out on top of an official fan poll for NJPW Strong’s Match of the Year 2020, for his clash with current Strong Openweight Champion ‘Filthy’ Tom Lawlor’.

Speaking to New Japan’s official website at the time, Rosser expressed his delight at the accolade:

It’s such a good feeling for me to hear that my match with Tom Lawlor topped the poll for best of NJPW Strong 2020. It’s a first for me in my 18+ years in this wrestling business and I’m still on cloud nine!

Rosser will be back in action for New Japan on this week’s edition of NJPW Strong, teaming with Adrian Quest to face the tandem of Barrett Brown and Bateman.

New Japan Strong airs every Friday on New Japan’s subscription streaming service, New Japan World.
