The revamped NXT will kick off with a bang next week as Raquel Gonzalez defends the NXT Women’s Championship against Franky Monet.
The match was made after Gonzalez and Monet were involved in interactions over the past few weeks regarding the next challenger for the title. Robert Stone confirmed the title bout, after emerging from NXT General Manager William Regal’s office to deliver the big news to Monet.
The title bout will be Big Mammi Cool’s fifth defence after winning the championship from Io Shirai at NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver Night 1. Gonzalez has proven herself to be a formidable champion since she won the title. She has defeated all who have stood in her way from Mercedes Martinez to Ember Moon. However, Franky Monet is the longest-reigning IMPACT Wrestling Knockouts Champion in history and has many tricks up her sleeve.
The match is just one of several major happenings taking place on the updated version of NXT. The other huge match announced is LA Knight vs Tommaso Ciampa vs Kyle O’Reilly vs Pete Dunne. They clash in a Fatal Four Way Match to determine the number one contender for the NXT Championship. Plus viewers will witness the wedding between Indi Hartwell and Dexter Lumis.
Next week’s edition of NXT ushers in the changes scheduled for weeks. The first show of the new era comes complete with new logo, theme and amphitheatre style arena. WWE President Nick Khan recently promised a “complete revamp” of the black and gold brand and fans will begin to see the outcome of that when NXT airs live on the 14th of September.
