A new report has suggested that Charlotte Flair was drafted to Friday Night SmackDown at the request of FOX.
One of the big movers on night one of the 2021 WWE Draft was Charlotte Flair. The Queen who had been part of Monday Night Raw since the 2019 Draft, was the second pick for SmackDown and the third pick overall in the first round.
Universal Champion Roman Reigns was the overall number one pick remaining on SmackDown, while WWE Champion Big E was drafted second and will settle on Raw.
Flair’s move grabbed headlines not only because she is the most decorated female Superstar of all time, she is of course the current Raw Women’s Champion.
According to a new report from Raj Giri of Wrestling Inc, the request to move Flair to the blue brand came directly from FOX. The switch means that both main roster Women’s Champions are now on SmackDown, however it should be noted that the new rosters won’t take effect until after Crown Jewel on October 21st.
At the event in Saudi Arabia, Becky Lynch will defend her SmackDown women’s crown against Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair who was drafted to Raw.
In the main event of the October 1st episode of SmackDown, Bianca Belair and Sasha Banks met in a huge WrestleMania rematch. In the bout, Banks gained some measure of revenge for her defeat in April by pinning Belair thanks to interference from Becky Lynch who had been sitting in on commentary.
After the match Charlotte Flair rushed the ring taking out Banks and then Belair. The show went off the air with Flair standing tall in the ring, with The Man standing atop the commentary desk Women’s Title in hand.
The other big moves on the night all came in the second round. It was announced that Drew McIntyre will be heading to SmackDown with Edge going in the opposite direction. The New Day were also drafted to the blue brand, meaning they remain on a separate brand to their third member Big E.
Night two of the WWE Draft will take place on the October 4th episode of Monday Night Raw.
