Four Title Changes At DDT’s Day Dream Believer 2021

Chris Brookes raises the DDT Extreme Title at DDT's Day Dream Believer 2021

DDT’s Day Dream Believer 2021 saw three of the four titles up for grabs across the show finding new homes by the conclusion of the night. The titles on the line were the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title, DDT Extreme Title, KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles & the DDT Universal Title.

The only champion to retain was the DDT Universal champion Yuki Ueno, who defeated challenger Yusuke Okada in the fourth title defence of his reign in the main event of the show.

In stark contrast, the Iron Man Heavymetalweight title changed hands twice. The incumbent champ Saki Akai’s Photo Book “Lip Hip Shake” was first pinned in a six person/object tornado tag team match by Keigo Nakamura. Nakamura became the title’s 1500th holder, before being quickly usurped by Saki Akai. The title is defended under 24/7 rules so even after the conclusion of the booked match the champion can still be beaten for the belt. Akai ultimately left the Korakuen Hall on this night as champion, now in her 18th reign.

Chris Brookes lifted gold for the third time during his DDT tenure. Defeating the Joker edition of Shunma Katsumata to claim the DDT Extreme title for the first time. The match was contested in Barbed Wire Casket Death Match which was predictably a violent affair and beyond barbed wire boards saw the use of Shunma’s now trademark Lego infused baseball bat and thumbtacks. Ultimately, Brookes was victorious following a missed Stuka Splash from Katsumata found him landing directly in the coffin and Brookes was able to close the lid on Shunma for the victory.

In the final title swap of the event, the DAMNATION team of Tetsuya Endo, Soma Takao, & Yuji Hino were able to wrest the KO-D Six Man Tag Team Titles from the Young Communication Generation trio. Akito, Kazuki Hirata & Shota fell to the new champs in what was their fourth title defence. The victors of this match have all previously held the six man belts, but this was the first title win for this particular combination of DAMNATION members.

We also learned during the course of Day Dream Believer 2021 that the DDT Sauna Party of Konosuke Takeshita, Mao, Shunma Katsumata & Yuki Ueno have rebranded as The37KAMIINA (pronounced as “Sauna Kamiina”).

Sanshiro Takagi took to the ring during the show and revealed his team for the KO-D 8-Man Tag Team Titles match on 28th March. His partners will be Yukio Naya, Chikara & Nabe Yakan. Takagi declared them to be Team Thoroughbred. They will be clashing with the reigning champions of Antonio Honda, Kazuki Hirata, Shinya Aoki, & Super Sasadango Machine who won the then vacant titles on Feburary 14th 2021.
