Four Free Agents Following Night 1 Of WWE Draft

Four WWE Superstars are now officially considered free agents after failing to be drafted during the first night of this year’s WWE Draft across SmackDown and Talking Smack.

Shorty G, Mickie James, Gran Metalik and Lince Dorado are all free to sign with whichever brand they like due to their free agency. Metalik & Dorado were originally a single draft choice alongside Kalisto as the Lucha House Party but SmackDown opted to draft Kalisto alone as their final pick, taking advantage of the same rule that led to the separation of The New Day as a trio.

James recently revealed she has a broken nose and will be unable to compete for a few weeks, which could explain her not being picked by either brand, although there is no explanation as to why the former Chad Gable also went unchosen. In theory this could allow the former NXT Tag Team Champion to return to the black and gold brand if he wished too, though this is purely speculation.

Mickie James reacted to becoming a free agent shortly before the additional picks on Talking Smack were made, poking fun at the fact that she had more title & overall careers wins than all the other free agents combined:

The 2020 WWE Draft kicked off this past Friday on SmackDown with switches including Seth Rollins, Rey & Dominik Mysterio to SmackDown whilst AJ Styles, The Miz & John Morrison moved over to RAW. A further five draft picks were made on Talking Smack the following day with Murphy, Drew Gulak and Tucker moving brands as a result.

Tomorrow’s episode of RAW will see the likes of SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley, former NXT Champion Keith Lee and the RETRIBUTION faction as a whole drafted to either the red or blue brands. We’ll have live results and an article detailing every draft pick from the show right here at Inside The Ropes.
