Former WWE Superstar Nixon Newell, known in WWE as Tegan Nox, recently shared details about the health challenges she faced prior to her release from the company.
In a revealing interview with Metro UK, Newell explained that a mystery illness contributed to her absence from WWE programming in 2022 and ultimately played a role in her release in November, alongside talents like Baron Corbin and Indi Hartwell.
“I did get incredibly sick for a little while. We didn’t really get a legit answer. I went through tests, I was in hospital, a bunch of different stuff.”
She believes the illness, which went undiagnosed for some time, was caused by a mix of stress and other factors.
“I think it was down to a lot of stress mixed with other things. But I was really sick, which contributed to my time off. I think that started it all, even though I said, ‘I’m good to go, it’s just I get sick now and again.’ But it wasn’t, like, deathly or anything.”
Newell also reflected on the miscommunication between the company’s internal medical team and external doctors, which she believes led to unnecessary time off.
“I think it just got lost in communication. But I think unnecessary time off started with a necessary time off, if that makes sense.”
Looking ahead, Newell is set to wrestle for the Attack! promotion in May against TNA’s Dani Luna. However, she admits that the past year has taken a toll on her love for wrestling, and she’s giving herself until mid-2027 to decide if she will continue her career.
“I’m giving myself two years to either find the love, find myself, or just call it a day. Mid-2027, just before my 33rd birthday.”
When Did Nixon Newell Become A Free Agent Following Her WWE Release?
The former Tegan Nox confirmed that she officially became a free agent following her WWE release on January 30. She posted the update on social media with a brief message and a photo of a cartoon version of herself on the cover of a fictitious comic book.
