Update On Former WWE Superstar Ted DiBiase Jr’s Fraud Charges

Ted DiBiase Jr and Cody Rhodes as WWE Tag Team Champions

Former WWE Superstar Ted DiBiase Jr has found himself in some hot water as of late.

Last year, the Mississippi Department of Human Services sued DiBiase and others (including his WWE Hall of Fame father, Ted DiBiase Sr) over $77million, which had apparently been “squandered.” The money came from a Temporary Assistance for Needy Families anti-poverty program, and much controversy has surrounded DiBiase thanks to this situation.

More recently, Ted DiBiase Jr has been charged by the US Department of Justice with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, which is defined as “financial fraud involving the use of telecommunications or information technology.”

Now, an update has been released regarding this case.

Update On Former WWE Superstar Ted DiBiase Jr’s Fraud Charges

The update on Ted DiBiase Jr’s fraud charges explains that there will be a delay in proceedings;

“The discovery in this case is extensive and additional time is needed by both sides to review the case and to prepare for trial or negotiate a plea.”

Overall, Ted DiBiase Jr has been charged with the following;

  • 1x count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and to commit theft concerning programs receiving federal funds
  • 6x counts of wire fraud
  • 2x counts of theft concerning programs receiving federal funds
  • 4x counts of money laundering

It is perhaps not the future that Ted DiBiase Jr would have imagined fifteen years ago when he was flying high as a member of the WWE roster.

In 2008, Ted DiBiase joined Legacy, a group led by main eventer Randy Orton. At Night of Champions 2008, he won the WWE Tag Team Championships with Cody Rhodes. They would lose the belts to the mega power of John Cena and Batista a month later, but then immediately win it back using their rematch clause.

DiBiase spent five years on the WWE main roster, before beginning a brief run on the independent circuit. At the time of writing, his final match was in 2017 for EGO WarriorMania in Mississippi.
