A former WWE Superstar has discussed their run-in with Goldberg during their time in the company and does not have any good to say about the former WCW Champion’s skills.
René Duprée was part of WWE between 2003 and 2007, with his La Resistance tag team debuting on Raw just a few weeks after former WCW megastar Goldberg had finally made his way to WWE. Despite Duprée and Goldberg only ever officially sharing the ring in the 2004 Royal Rumble match, the former 2-time WWE Tag Team Champion did have a run-in with the star.
Speaking to That 90’s Wrestling Podcast, Duprée opened up about the injury that Goldberg caused him that still causes him pain to this day:
“Yeah, he dislocated my collarbone. We [La Resistance] had a pre-tape in the back with Goldberg and he hit me with the French flag and we had to do 5 takes. To this day, if I try to flex it, it still hurts. Yeah, he’s the sh*ts. He’s horrible, many wrestlers will tell you that.”
Duprée went onto give his take as to why he thinks WWE still calls upon Goldberg to be part of their programming. At 54 years old Goldberg recently returned to WWE screens as he challenged Bobby Lashley for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam.
“To me, they (WWE) must be desperate. That’s the only thing I can figure. They can’t create new stars or they don’t have confidence in the people they have.”
Goldberg’s first run in WWE came to an ignominious end at WrestleMania XX in 2004 when he faced Brock Lesnar in a match the New York crowd was none too pleased to see after news broke that both men were leaving the company imminently.
In 2016 Goldberg returned to wrestling after a 12-year absence and set his sights on Lesnar once again, shockingly defeating The Beast Incarnate in one minute and twenty-five seconds at that year’s Survivor Series.
