Sylvain Grenier, best known for his tenure with WWE as part of the La Résistance tag team alongside Rene Dupree, shared insights into his early wrestling career.
During a revealing appearance on “Developmentally Speaking.” Grenier recounted his early days in OVW before making the leap to WWE, shedding light on the unexpected challenges he faced.
In a candid revelation, Grenier disclosed his background as a performer and entertainer prior to entering the wrestling world, including his involvement in acting gigs. However, he admitted to being taken aback by the stringent rules and cultural nuances of professional wrestling, expressing:
I nearly got killed. I was a f***ing idiot.
He lamented the lack of formal instruction on the concept of respect within the wrestling industry, emphasising that while he inherently respected everyone, there existed an unspoken level of respect specific to wrestling.
Despite acknowledging the wrestling culture, Grenier candidly described the situation as “some bulls**t, stupid s**t,” reflecting the internal conflict he experienced while navigating the unfamiliar terrain of the wrestling world. Recounting his early days in OVW, Grenier portrayed the diverse and vibrant environment that characterized his formative wrestling experience.
Grenier’s transition from his previous entertainment work to the wrestling domain brought unexpected challenges. Having previously refereed a match between Hulk Hogan and The Rock, Grenier considered himself part of the wrestling fraternity. However, he encountered a stark awakening when he inadvertently referred to The Big Show incorrectly, stating :
No ‘Big Show’ it’s not ‘Big Show,’ it’s Paul. You know? So, in my head, it went that way, so I went there and I’m like, ‘Yeah, Paul’ because I said ‘Paul’ I got heat, ‘No, it’s not Paul, it’s Big Show.’
What Did Sylvain Grenier’s WWE Tag Partner Rene Dupree Say About Goldberg?
Rene Dupree said that Goldberg was “so goddamn dangerous in the ring.” Dupree was asked who he thought was the most dangerous WWE wrestler and named Goldberg but highlighted that he wasn’t in the WWE for long during his first run with the company.
