Former NXT talent Riley Osborne has revealed he was injured at the time of his release from WWE this weekend.
Osborne, formerly part of the Chase U faction, had not appeared on NXT TV since the group’s split in November. He recently resurfaced on WWE’s revamped Evolve programme, but those matches were taped prior to his injury.
In a social media post following the release, Osborne shared a sarcastic thumbs-up selfie with the caption:
“Can’t wait to get medically cleared at work… oh”.
He later added this comment to fans querying why he was on TV if he was injured:
“March 7th I had surgery, have been out of action since… pre recordings are a magical thing.”
It’s been reported that Osborne suffered the injury and underwent surgery two months ago. He remained medically uncleared at the time of his release.
Osborne was among 17 WWE talents released this past weekend, along with one whose contract was not renewed, main roster star Shotzi. The cuts spanned both the main roster and NXT.
Addressing Osborne’s situation and possible future in wrestling, Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio:
“There was just – not political, that’s not the right word – there were just certain things that happened with him, and it kind of led to them taking him off television. But talent-wise, he’s there. He’s good. He’s someone that AEW should at least take a look at, take a chance at. He never really got to show it there [in WWE].”
Who Else Did WWE Release On May 2 2025?
WWE released 17 main roster and NXT stars on May 2 2025, including the likes of Braun Strowman, Dakota Kai, and Shayna Baszler. Most of the releases were from NXT, with a handful of releases also coming from the main roster. It is currently unknown what any of the released stars will do going forward, but it can be expected that some of them will likely look to pursue opportunities with the likes of AEW or TNA.
In recent news, Riley Osborne refuted claims that he rejected a WWE decision prior to his release.
