When it comes to promos, there are a select few who top almost every list for the best ever.
Wrestlers and fans alike often name the likes of Dusty Rhodes, Jake Roberts, Ric Flair, and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson as the greatest to hold a microphone.
In the current era, the conversation turns to stars such as MJF and Becky Lynch. However, for former WWE star Barry Horowitz, there is one man who is up there with Flair and The Rock, the 2023 Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes.
During an appearance on The Hannibal TV, Horowitz said The American Nightmare is “Top 5”.
“He’s the next best thing there in my eyes. He’s the next man in line. He’s going to be your ultimate babyface with the world title and they’re going to keep it on him, if they’re smart. His promos are in my top five. He’s up there with [Ric] Flair. He’s up there with The Rock. I like Kurt Angle’s promos too. But Cody, just everything about him, his work is solid.”
In recent weeks, Rhodes has been putting those promo skills to use in verbal sparring matches with his WrestleMania 39 opponent, Roman Reigns.

According to Horowitz, Rhodes should be the man to finally end Reigns’ dominant run as the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, saying it’s “time to pass the torch”.
“It should be Cody Rhodes beating Roman right in the middle. He’s had a hell of a run, hell of a run. So, it’s time, time to pass the torch.”
While many agree with Horowitz, it seems that WWE is still undecided. A recent report has claimed that the plans for the winner of the bout are still “not certain” only weeks away from the Showcase Of The Immortals.
