Mickie James didn’t know where her storyline with John Cena was supposed to go.
John Cena and Mickie James had a brief romance angle in WWE back in 2008. The storyline didn’t last long and quickly fizzled out. At the time, the pair were involved with each other in a real-life affair, which may have been the inspiration for putting them together on TV.
Speaking about the onscreen relationship on Ring the Belle, James said that she didn’t know what the storyline was meant to accomplish.
“I don’t really know where that was supposed to go or where it wasn’t supposed to go. I think obviously we were talking or whatever at the time anyways. I feel it was one of those things. I mean it was a well-known thing.”
Going on, the former Women’s Champion admitted the pair had no chemistry in front of the cameras.
“It’s one those things where they’re like, ‘Hey, we’ll try this on air.’ I don’t know that we actually had any on-camera chemistry. You know, when I watch it back, I go, ‘Eh, I didn’t [feel it].’ It felt uncomfortable. I don’t know if it came off on camera as natural.”
