A former WWE NXT North American Champion whom many presumed to be sidelined with injury for a very long time made a surprise appearance at a recent taping.
During the April 30th episode of NXT, current North American Champion Oba Femi successfully defended the title against Ivar after a very physical bout. After the match the music of Wes Lee hit, sending the crowd and announcer Booker T into a frenzy. Walking through the crowd, Lee jumped from the guardrail to the steps before standing face-to-face with Femi. Appearing backstage later in the night, Lee made it clear he was looking to get his title back.
Back in December 2023, Lee appeared in the ring holding a crutch and emotionally stated that he is not able to compete. The social media caption on the post also stated that the former champion would be “out indefinitely.” Wes Lee was originally set to challenge Dominik Mysterio for the North American Title at Deadline but was replaced by Dragon Lee. Shawn Michaels confirmed in a media call that the replacement was a last-minute decision.
Further information on Lee’s status has been provided by Fightful Select, who confirms that the former champion has been cleared to compete. There were originally concerns that Lee could have missed up to a year of action or may had to retire altogether.
