A Hall of Famer and former rival of John Cena would love one more opportunity to take on the WWE legend.
2025 will see the Hollywood star compete in his final match in what will be the conclusion of his year-long farewell tour. Closing the book on a 23-year career on the main roster, Cena famously won 16 World Championships and is looking for that 17th reign to break the WWE all-time record. While it remains unknown if Cena will win that all-important 17th title, the man who he beat to win his first championship is open to another round with Big Match John.
Back in 2005, Cena defeated JBL at WrestleMania 21 to become the WWE Champion for the first time in his career. Discussing his former rival on the Something to Wrestle podcast, JBL stated that he was honoured to be a part of Cena’s journey and if given the opportunity would come out of retirement:
“I was so happy that I was part of John’s formative career. And again, I don’t take any credit for anything John did. John would be exactly where he is now, with or without me. I’m just glad that I was one of the ones that was there at the start. But John’s such a great guy. Everything about him…the more you know about John, from his Make-A-Wish, what he does, to how he interacts with fans, to how he interacts with talent, what he’s done with talent, it’s just amazing. So yeah, of course [I’d like one more crack at him].”
Although some are divided on the possibility of Cena winning another World Championship, JBL would love to see it as it is unknown if the record would be broken anytime soon:
“I think it be cool to see. It’s like the four minute barrier of the mile, you want to see it broke…you want to see Judge break Babe’s record. You want to see stuff like this happen in life. You don’t know…when it could ever happen again. Randy looks like he’s getting up to that point that he might be the guy that breaks it as well. But I’d love to see it, and I can’t wait to see what all John does in the next few months.”
John Cena Talks Dream Movie Pairing
Joining the likes of The Rock and Dave Bautista, Cena has made the successful transition to the movie world with featured roles in successful franchises. When asked which WWE star he would want to be his co-star, John Cena had one name that instantly came to mind.
In other news, Matt Hardy has spoken about in-ring retirement.
