Former WWE champion Wins First Singles PLE Match In 357 Days At Night Of Champions

WWE Sami Zayn

After almost a year, a former WWE champion finally earned their first solo PLE victory.

Night of Champions has started on a hot note. With Cody Rhodes’ victory over Randy Orton in the King of the Ring final, the PLE then followed it up with a violent ‘Street Fight’ between Rhea Ripley and Raquel Rodriguez.

In the third bout of the night, popular stars Karrion Kross and Sami Zayn collided against each other to gain back their dominance on the roster. While Kross competed in his first PLE match since WrestleMania 40, Zayn was also on the lookout for his first singles victory at a premium live event in almost a year.

Following a closely contested fight between the two former NXT Champions, Sami Zayn was finally able to keep Karrion Kross down after a Helluva Kick. Tonight’s victory in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, marked Zayn’s first singles PLE win in nearly 357 days. The former four-time Intercontinental Champion’s last victory was at Money in the Bank 2024 against Bron Breakker.

However, despite the win tonight, the feud between Zayn and Kross seems far from over.

Former WWE Star Claims Sami Zayn Was Difficult To Work With

Earlier this year, during an interview with Scott Johnson of the Going Ringside podcast, controversial former United States Champion Matt Riddle revealed that Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn were two stars who were difficult to work with. Sharing his thoughts, Riddle said:

Hardest opponent? Hardest opponent in the ring? I would have to say Sheamus. Sheamus, easy to work with, hits really hard. So hardest in the ring. But, then when I think about who’s harder to maybe work with, I would have to say Sami Zayn or Kevin Owens… It’s hard to put a complete sentence together with those guys if you know what I’m saying… Very difficult. Sheamus hits ya hard, but it’s easy to put together.”
