Former WWE Champion Almost Became The “Son Of Abyss”

Former WWE Champion Almost Became The

A former WWE Champion almost played the character of Abyss’s son.

The Monster was one of the standout stars in TNA/Impact Wrestling, where his persona and fighting style made him a fan favorite. Recently, it came to light that there was once a planned storyline where it would be revealed that the TNA legend had a son, and that character would have been played by Mick Foley.

Former WWE Star Mick Foley Shares Details Of The “Son Of Abyss” Storyline

Speaking in an interview with Kayfabe Friends Wrestling Podcast, the former WWE Champion was asked which among his three characters, i.e., Cactus Jack, Dude Love, and Mankind, he would choose to debut on Monday Night Raw in today’s day and age, or if he had another different character that he could never portray.

The WWE Hall of Famer said while he was always grateful to have the Mankind character, he would want to debut with the character that best represented him, which was Cactus Jack. He then shared details about the scrapped Impact Wrestling storyline.

He said that this happened at the time Hulk Hogan joined the promotion, the story involved Hogan telling The Weapon of Mass Destruction that he had a secret child, which would later be revealed to be Mick Foley.

“I’ll give you a two-part answer. Um, if I think Cactus Jack, I’m really grateful for Mankind, but if you only have one shot, I think you go with what is most legit and most true, and that was Cactus Jack, just as an extension of my personality.

And the one character that got away from me, oh man, uh, this was money. You can almost smell the money still around. This was at a time when Hulk Hogan came into Impact Wrestling, and he took Abyss under his wing, right? And I wanted Hulk to have a man-to-man talk with Abyss and tell him that the way he had of expressing his love 18 years earlier had actually, you know, resulted in a child who would be revealed to be the son of Abyss. That’s me, the son of Abyss.“

The former WWE Champion said he imagined the angle to play out where it would be revealed that he was the former The Monster’s secret partner, and he would don the TNA star’s mask and go up against Eric Bischoff’s cronies.

Foley added that he could visualize Bischoff screaming “Son of Abyss” when he saw this happen, and mentioned that Steve Austin was lucky this catchphrase wasn’t made into a T-shirt. He said:

“And I just imagined like, you know, Abyss and a secret partner working against two of Eric Bischoff’s guys. I would be the secret partner, come down in the Abyss mask, you know, win that thing, and I just imagine Eric Bischoff in the middle of the ring going, ‘Son of Abyss! Son of Abyss!’

And that’s why I have to say, with all due respect to Austin 3:16, Steve, you’re darn lucky the ‘Son of Abyss’ shirts never hit the market.”
