A former announcer in WWE is not happy with the things they saw at a recent AEW pay-per-view.
For better or for worse, the violent spots from All Out got the wrestling world talking. With Bryan Danielson being suffocated with a plastic bag and Swerve Strickland being stabbed with a hypodermic needle, some felt uncomfortable with what they saw and felt that it was a step too far while others praised the intensity of the angles. When asked about his thoughts on the infamous spots, former announcer Jonathan Coachman was disgusted by what he saw.
Appearing on Gabby AF, Coach first criticised the spots as a form of laziness as he believes the promotion is resorting to over-the-top violence instead of writing compelling stories:
“People [say], ‘Coach, that was a storyline. If this was in a movie …’ It’s not a movie. It’s a real life movie. And these are real things with kids in the front row watching it in real time. And this goes back to laziness … When you can’t write a story good enough that you have a hypodermic needle inside somebody’s mouth — it was disgusting.”
Continuing, the former announcer also addressed the rumours and reports that Tony Khan is monitoring social media in response to his booking decisions:
“I know for a fact that he does that. So he’s listening to these scrubs and these marks who think they know what they’re talking about.”
“I Hated The Whole Show”: Former WWE Announcer Jonathan Coachman
Concluding his critiques, Coachman also expressed concern over what may happen in the future if a young fan saw All Out and wanted to replicate the controversial plastic bag spot:
“I’m waiting for — and I hate to say this — the story that comes out that some 9-year-old kid suffocates his brother because they’re playing in the backyard, and he saw Bryan Danielson do it, so I’m going to do it. I hated the whole [show].”
