WWE and WCW legend Chuck Coates is no longer with us.
2025 is turning out to be a tragic year for professional wrestling. A few months ago, the industry lost one of its greatest names in Hulk Hogan. And now another WCW veteran, Chuck Coates, has unfortunately passed away as well.
At just 63 years old, the North Carolina native breathed his last. The news became public after his wife, Cynthia Lucas Chandler Coates, shared a statement.
This is not a post I ever thought I’d have to make. My wonderful husband Chuck Coates took his last breath on earth and his first breath in Heaven at 3:44 a.m. while I held his hand. Please pray for our family as we navigate the days ahead.”
Coates had been experiencing several cardiac issues after bypass surgery. On Saturday, his wife revealed that he had undergone four operations the previous week.
Coates was a wrestler who competed in the undercard, primarily for WCW, and also worked in an enhancement role in multiple WWF events. Some of his most popular opponents were Ricky Steamboat, Sting, Lex Luger, Steve Austin, Bobby Eaton, Andre the Giant, Bad News Allen, and Kurt Angle.
He was also a member of The German Stormtroopers team in WWC in Puerto Rico in 1992. Later, he became the Russian Assassin for PWF in North Carolina and SCW out of South Carolina.
On behalf of ITR Wrestling, we send condolences to the family, friends, and fans of Coates.
