Former World Champion Makes Shock Return To NXT

NXT Crowd

Seth Rollins wasn’t the only former NXT Champion to make their way back to WWE’s third brand on June 20th.

On the show — the first of two NXT Gold Rush episodes — Seth Rollins put his World Heavyweight Championship on the line against Bron Breakker. Rollins went into the match on the back foot having been attacked by Finn Balor just 24 hours earlier on Raw, but The Revolutionary hasn’t become World Champion by accident.

With his ribs taped up, Rollins dug deep to withstand his younger and more powerful challenger, delivering two stomps to eventually score the win.

However, Rollins’ celebrations were quickly cut short by Balor who attacked the World Champion as he made his way back up the ramp. The Irish star threw everything at Rollins once again in a frenzied attack, targeting his ribs with a steel chair.

The rivalry between Rollins and Balor stretches all of the way back to 2016 when the latter pinned Rollins to become the first-ever Universal Champion, but not after he had been injured by the former Shield star in the process.

In recent weeks the pair have renewed their heated feud and will meet at Money In The Bank with the World Heavyweight Title on the line.
