Former NXT Superstar Re-Hired By WWE In New Backstage Role

Eddie Dennis is back in WWE, but he’s not stepping back inside the squared circle and is instead taking on a role backstage.

Throughout his career, Dennis was a mainstay on the British independent wrestling scene. After famously quitting his job as a high school head teacher to follow his professional wrestling dreams, Dennis became a regular for Attack Pro Wrestling, PROGRESS, and Revolution Pro Wrestling among many other promotions.

He signed with WWE in 2018, performing primarily on the NXT UK brand and feuding with the likes of Dave Mastiff and Trent Seven.

While under contract to the sports entertainment giant, he dethroned the former WALTER to become the PROGRESS Unified World Champion in 2019. He would have the vacate the title after 126 days due to injury.

In 2022, WWE announced it was closing the NXT UK brand and releasing several stars from their contracts. Dennis was among multiple names let go from the company and returned to the British independent scene.

In February of 2023, Dennis declared that if he didn’t win the RevPro Revolution Rumble at York Hall on March 26th, he was done with his in-ring career. He was unsuccessful at securing a victory, and he left his boots in the ring following the show, a sign that he was officially retiring.

Eddie Dennis Has Been Hired As A Writer/Producer For WWE NXT

Now, a recent video posted to WWE’s LinkedIn account reveals that Dennis has once again been hired by the sports entertainment giant, though he’s not getting back in the ring. Instead, he’s been hired as a writer and producer for NXT.

On the most recent episode of NXT, it was revealed that Indi Hartwell would be vacating the NXT Women’s Championship after being drafted to Monday Night Raw. A tournament to crown a new champion will begin next week.
