A former NXT coach was reportedly backstage at multiple AEW events.
On January 5th a number of backstage NXT personnel were released from their contracts by WWE. The most high-profile of these was NXT’s on-screen General Manager William Regal. The former Intercontinental Champion worked behind the scenes as Director of Talent Development and Head of Global Recruiting and was known to be instrumental in signing some of NXT’s biggest names.
Another person let go by the company at the same time was Chris Guy, who is better known as Ace Steel. During his time in the ring, Steel famously appeared in Ring of Honor alongside CM Punk, before enjoying short stints in MLW and WWE in the mid-2000’s.
Steel began working as a coach and producer in NXT in late 2019. After being released by WWE it appears that the coach could be returning to wrestling very soon.
According to a new report from PWInsider, Steel was backstage in Atlantic City for the February 9th episode of AEW Dynamite, while he was also present at a recent AEW Dark taping in Orlando, Florida.
Steel wasn’t the only former WWE employee in Atlantic City for Dynamite as the show also saw the debut of Keith Lee.
The former NXT Champion appeared as the mystery opponent for Isiah Kassidy and wasted little time in dispatching his high-flying opponent. Lee later posted a statement thanking fans for their support.
“We got a lot of work to do still. But I more than appreciate the warm welcome back. The person with the sign that had the same silhouette that’s on the front of my hoodie…. thank you. Touched my soul. And with sad family times hopefully behind me….let’s grind. #ForwardMarch“
With victory, Lee earned himself a spot in the Face of the Revolution Ladder Match at AEW Revolution on March 6th.
