The phrase “confidence is key” is commonly used in professional wrestling. If a wrestler is not confident in their abilities, it will be very challenging for that wrestler to achieve success.
Confidence is certainly something that one former Intercontinental Champion is not lacking, however, as revealed in a recent interview.
Former Intercontinental Champion Makes Bold Claim
Speaking on the latest edition of WWE’s After The Bell podcast, Ricochet did not hold back when comparing himself to others on the WWE roster.
“You look at your Austin Theorys and you look at all these guys who look the part as the complete all-around package. But when you get me in there, there is really no one as complete as me.”
“I know I’m not as strong as Bobby Lashley, but I can still squat 400-plus pounds. I’m probably not as fast as some of these guys, but I’m just as fast if not faster than almost everybody else. If you’re looking for a complete package, especially in that ring. Don’t look any further than Ricochet.”
Ricochet has a lot to be confident about recently, having won the SmackDown World Cup on December 2nd. He defeated Santos Escobar in the tournament’s final, which also featured names such as Shinsuke Nakamura, Braun Strowman and Mustafa Ali.
This World Cup victory has made Ricochet the #1 Contender for the Intercontinental Championship, which Gunther currently holds. The match is set to take place this week on the December 16th edition of SmackDown.
“The One and Only,” of course, has experience in holding the Intercontinental Championship. He last held the belt earlier this year, defeating Sami Zayn on the March 4th edition of SmackDown. Ricochet’s reign lasted 98 days before being beaten by Gunther on June 10th. This history nicely sets up their match this week, with Ricochet looking to recapture the championship he lost to Gunther six months ago.
