This former champion wanted a match against Will Ospreay during his AEW run.
Making his All Elite Wrestling debut in 2021 and enjoying a four-year run at the promotion, former Trios Champion Aleister Black, aka Malakai Black, parted ways with the Jacksonville-based promotion earlier this year.
Joining Ricky Saints and Rusev in WWE, Black made his way to his former promotion as Aleister Black on the 25th April episode of SmackDown. While he is scheduled to face The Miz in his WWE return match, he found himself in several high-profile matches during his time at Tony Khan’s promotion, including matches against Cody Rhodes, Cope, and Adam Cole. However, while Black was a part of several memorable bouts, he never faced his iconic indie rival, Will Ospreay.
In an interview with Wrestling the Rap Game before his AEW exit, Black discussed how often he pitched matches against Ospreay, and his desire to face him in the promotion. However, the duo last faced each other in 2016 and never shared the ring in All Elite Wrestling, despite pitching the match multiple times.
“The Ospreay match is something that I actually pitched a couple of times. We had such good chemistry back then. We had some absolute barnburners and it’s also because I’m a bit of a calculus for him because I force him to do different things with his wrestling. When we did wrestle, I would work his leg, ‘Now you can’t fly. What are you going to do?’ I have a good relationship with Will.
Black also heaped praises on the former International Champion and predicted that he had a big career waiting for him.
I remember sitting in his dad’s car and his dad was driving us from show A to show B, and I remember saying to him, ‘You’re going to be a big star. You’re going to be a really big star.’ At the time, the goal was Dragon Gate. I said to him, ‘That’s easy. That’s a matter of time.’ His road went the way it went, but now, he’s one of the biggest stars in professional wrestling.”

Speaking with Q101’s Case Lowe, Will Ospreay called for RevPro to be represented on the Forbidden Door PPV. He also expressed his desire to have the British Heavyweight Championship presented on the show.
