The pro wrestling world changed forever on July 22nd when Vince McMahon announced he was retiring as WWE Chairman and CEO. The announcement came after allegations of sexual misconduct and hush money payments came to light.
In the aftermath of McMahon’s departure, Stephanie McMahon has become WWE Chairwoman and co-CEO alongside Nick Khan, while Triple H has taken over the creative direction of the company as Chief Content Officer
However, not everyone believes that Vince McMahon has relinquished control of the company he took from a territorial wrestling promotion to a global entertainment behemoth.
Sgt. Slaughter thinks Vince McMahon is still part of WWE
Over the last few months, several WWE veterans have spoken of their belief that McMahon is still pulling the strings.
Now, adding to the speculation, former WWE Champion Sgt. Slaughter, who worked closely with the billionaire for many years, has told Sportskeeda that he feels there’s “no way to keep him away”.
“I feel that he’s [Vince McMahon] still there and there’s no way to keep him away as far as his knowledge of the business [goes]. If it wasn’t for his knowledge, a lot of us wouldn’t be doing the things we’re doing today.”
Slaughter went on to wish Vince McMahon the best, saying the two have always been good friends and putting him up there with the legendary Harley Race as the reason he had become as successful as he did.
“I wish him all the best. He’s always been a good friend to me. And then he became a boss and then he became a friend again. To me, he was part of my life and is the reason I’m sitting here talking to you, along with Harley Race.”
However, despite speculation otherwise, there have been several reports indicating that Vince McMahon is definitively gone from WWE, with the changes in creative spearheaded by Triple H being cited as proof that he no longer has any say in the product.
