One former champion hilariously responded to being referenced at WWE Crown Jewel.
At Crown Jewel on November 2nd, Chelsea Green teamed with longtime partner Piper Niven in an attempt to recapture the Women’s Tag Team Championship in a multi-team match. As Green made her entrance, Corey Graves jokingly compared Michael Cole’s praise for the star to “schoolyard crushes.” The two men then referenced Green’s husband Matt Cardona, who wrestled in the company for years as Zack Ryder.
Graves: “If you want to get into Chelsea’s good graces, maybe you should start playing with actions figures, Cole.”
Cole: “Or be an Internet Champion.” (h/t WrestleTalk)
Taking to social media after the event, Cardona wrote:

Cardona also laughed when one fan indicated that might be the most over he ever was in the sports entertainment giant.
Matt Cardona Wants To Finish His Career In WWE
Speaking in an August interview with Fernando Quiles Jr. of Sports Illustrated, Cardona admitted he feels closer to the sports entertainment giant now than when he was working for the company.
“I honestly feel like I’m closer to the WWE world title than I was when I worked for WWE. I am so fortunate for Zack Ryder for the highs and the lows, the good and the bad because it set me up for this. It prepared me for this.”
The former Intercontinental Champion further admitted to wanting to finish his career at WWE.
“I’m proud to be the ‘Indie God,’ I’m proud to be the face of GCW, but when it’s all said and done, I want to end my career in WWE. I want to have another WrestleMania moment, I want to be in Madison Square Garden, but as Matt Cardona. Zack Ryder is dead.”
During another recent interview, Cardona looked back on working with Hugh Jackman.
