A former AEW wrestler has spoken out about their experiences working within the company.
Approaching 5 years on national television, All Elite Wrestling is still relatively new and at times has been a trial by fire in terms of putting a show together. While many established stars on the roster knew the ins and outs of working for a major promotion and performing in front of the cameras, others had only worked independent shows before being thrust into the spotlight.
One of the younger stars looking to gain experience from working in a major promotion was Brock Anderson, the son of Hall of Famer Arn Anderson. Back in June 2021, Anderson competed in his first match for the promotion, which was also his first official match as a professional wrestler.
Recalling his time in the company on the Under The Ring podcast, Anderson stated that AEW was “just TV” and was not set up for the younger talent to learn the industry, adding that he was not ready at that point:
“When I was at AEW, hindsight’s 20/20, you can look back and see that things weren’t going to be the way they were. But I didn’t know — it was a new company, I didn’t know what was going to happen. But I don’t think looking back now I was ready for that. Because for young guys, there is no setup to really learn and grasp the business. It’s basically just TV.”
Anderson confirmed his departure from AEW in late 2023. Now a part of MLW, Anderson is set to make his debut for the promotion at the upcoming Summer of the Beasts show on August 29th.
Another AEW Exit Potentially Imminent
Approaching 5 years of Dynamite being on the airwaves, the roster looks unrecognisable compared to the talent employed back in 2019. With multiple stars exiting AEW, another departure may be happening soon.
