Though he’s not ashamed of nakedness in real life, this former champion doesn’t think a nudist gimmick is right for him in AEW.
Former TNT Champion Miro isn’t shy about letting his fondness for nudity be known, and he and his wife Lana baring all during a photoshoot was even worked into a storyline when the two were featured on Total Divas. In the 2018 episode, the two took racy photos on the beach, and had to discuss the situation with then-VP of Talent Relations Mark Carrano as the pictures didn’t uphold the WWE’s image.
However, speaking in a new interview with Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, Miro says that despite his naked lifestyle, he wouldn’t want to turn it into a gimmick on TV.
“It’s my lifestyle I like being naked. No, no, absolutely not. It’s still television. We need to show ourselves appropriately, there are kids out there watching. We don’t want to scare anybody.”
If the former Rusev did choose to bare all on television, he wouldn’t be the first wrestler to do so. Dennis Knight, more commonly known to WWE fans as Phineas I. Godwinn and later Mideon, adopted a gimmick in mid-2000 which saw him come to the ring wearing nothing but boots, a fanny pack, and a thong.
However, “Naked Mideon” didn’t last long, so perhaps it’s a good thing that Miro will stick to being God’s Favorite Champion on AEW television.
Elsewhere in the interview, Miro dismissed The Undertaker’s comments about locker room culture, saying that wrestlers now have more brains than they did back in the day.
