A member of the AEW roster hopes to be back in action soon.
Rey Fenix has been out of action since October 2023, last seen losing the International Championship to Orange Cassidy on the Title Tuesday special. One week prior to losing the title, Rey Fenix confirmed that he had been dealing with an injury in an update on social media:
The night I became champion, I left the arena with the championship in my hands and with an old injury bothering me again. My first defense was painful, it did not allow the pain to stop me and continue until the fight was over, this coming Wednesday will be my second defense and I am doing my best to enter that ring and retain the champion.
While not disclosed by the former International and Tag Team Champion, it has been previously reported that Fenix is dealing with a back and/or hip injury.
Fenix recently participated in a media event to promote the new Marvel series Echo. Speaking with Denise Salcedo, Fenix stated that he is working through recovery and hopes to be back soon:
We are working on the recovery. I think it’s the worst injury [I’ve had]. But I’m taking my time. I’m doing a good job in my recovery. I put everything with the doctors. I’m following the doctor’s line. I’m doing my best. And I think, I can’t talk so much about — but soon. Soon I will be in the ring, doing lucha libre, doing the thing that makes me so happy.
Another Former AEW Champion Out Injured
2023 saw many top names in the company side-lined with injuries, including Jon Moxley, Bryan Danielson and Kenny Omega. Despite getting multiple injuries towards the end of the year, former World Champion MJF continued to work through to Worlds End, where he dropped the title to Samoa Joe. In a recent update, MJF may require surgery and could be out for a lengthy period of time.
Inside The Ropes would like to wish Rey Fenix a full and speedy recovery.
