Former AEW Champion Defends Cody Rhodes’ Choice To Team Up With Roman Reigns

Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns face off at WWE Bad Blood

A former AEW Champion has displayed her support for Cody Rhodes’ past decision.

At Bad Blood 2024, Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns went past their past rivalry to team together and face Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu. The PLE also marked the end of Rhodes and Kevin Owens’ friendship.

The American Nightmare’s alliance with The OTC did not sit well with The Prizefighter, as the latter believed his long-running history did not matter with Rhodes. It began a hot feud between the two former friends, who will now set to face each other at the upcoming Saturday Night Main Event.

On the 6th December episode of SmackDown, Owens launched a ruthless attack on Rhodes at the end of the show. While many fans have voiced their support for Kevin Owens, former AEW Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa believes Rhodes did what he had to do.

In her recent appearance on Busted Open Radio, Rosa defended the current champion’s actions and believed that as the promotion’s face, he has a lot of responsibilities.

You guys don’t think about the work opportunities that you’ll miss if you don’t team with certain people at certain jobs. Wrestling is one of them. I see this all the time. It has happened to me. […] In the case of Cody Rhodes, he had to do what he had to do as the golden boy. He had no choice but to work with certain people. […] He has to work with the top people at a certain time to fight evil. It has happened everywhere.”

Rosa claimed that despite reluctance, Rhodes had to take up the opportunity and take on the bigger evil.

Cody Rhodes Shares His What His Plans Were After Leaving AEW In 2022

In an interview on ‘The Flagrant’ podcast, Cody Rhodes opened up on his plans after parting ways with Tony Khan’s promotion in 2022. He claimed that he followed his instincts and had no distinct plan.

It looked like I had a plan to everybody else, it was a total bluff. I didn’t know what the plan was. I certainly could have gone back (to AEW), we could have figured that out and been fine. Something inside was pointing a different direction for me.”
