Former AEW Women’s Champion Saraya has announced that she is no longer a part of the promotion.
The news was broken by Entertainment Weekly, who have obtained a quote from the British wrestler’s upcoming podcast Rulebreakers With Saraya, which will premiere on March 27th
“I’m here to tell you that me and AEW’s relationship has come to an end. I had an amazing time there. There’s no bad blood between us. I had such a magical time.”
The former Women’s Champion added that she wanted to take a couple of months away for personal reasons, but came to the realisation that there is nothing left for her to do in wrestling at this time:
“And then I got to thinking — what is there left for me to do in wrestling right now? Right now, there’s really no storylines where I would fit in.”
The former Women’s Champion also noted that it was nothing to do with Tony Khan and she had a great time in All Elite Wrestling:
“It’s just me thinking that I just don’t fit in right now. I feel like I might be taking someone else’s spot, someone who could be doing something really special.
“Thank you, AEW. Thank you to the AEW fans — I loved my f—ing time there. Tony’s f—ing awesome. And anyone that goes to work there will just enjoy their time. It’s just great. And I’ll miss the girls’ locker room. I’ll miss you, but don’t be a f—ing stranger! You know where I am. I see some of you outside the company anyway.”
The Entertainment Weekly article also provides more information on the upcoming podcast, which will see the British wrestler interview “the rebels, the misfits, the ones who refuse to take the easy way out.” Confirmed guests for the show include fellow wrestler Harley Cameron and comedian Brad Williams.
Saraya Also Confirms AEW Exit
Following the publication of the article, the former Women’s Champion also confirmed the news on social media, describing her departure as mutual:
It’s mutual! But I loved my time at AEW and I had such a blast with the girls there. It’ll hold a special place in my heart. Tony was a great, AEW was great. I feel so lucky to be apart of this family for a couple years.
Here’s to 2025! Wtf am I gonna get myself into now 🤔😂
After first announcing her retirement from wrestling due to injury shortly after WrestleMania 34, the former Paige left WWE in the summer of 2022. Making her surprise debut at Grand Slam later that year, the former Women’s Champion announced that she had been cleared to compete once more.
Making her in-ring debut for the promotion at Full Gear 2022 with a victory over Britt Baker, the British star competed in 27 matches for All Elite Wrestling. The most notable victory came at All In 2023 when Saraya won the Women’s Championship in front of her family inside Wembley Stadium.
