First-Time NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Crowned

NXT Women's Tag Team Championship Fatal Four Way Match

After the titles were vacated, a new set of NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions has been crowned!

At Great American Bash on July 5th, Cora Jade and Roxanne Perez made history when they defeated Toxic Attraction to become the youngest tag team to win the NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions.

However, their celebration was short-lived as Cora Jade shocked the world when it was revealed that she had attacked her best friend and tag team partner Roxanne Perez just one week later. Earlier in the night, Perez was shown lying in the parking lot after a vicious attack, and while Jade tried to cast suspicion on Toxic Attraction ahead of Perez’s title match with Mandy Rose, she was revealed to be the real attacker as she believed Roxanne had been “selfish.”

The next week, Jade escalated the situation when she declared that the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships were meaningless due to Roxanne’s actions, and she made good on her word by throwing her title belt in the trash, effectively vacating it. The next week, Roxanne Perez appeared in a segment alongside WWE Hall of Famer Alundra Blayze and vacated her title as well, saying that the championships should be with two people who are proud to wear them and proud to defend them.

Therefore, a fatal four way elimination match was made for the August 2nd episode of NXT that saw former champions Toxic Attraction take on Katana Chance & Kayden Carter, Tatum Paxley & Ivy Nile, and Valentina Feroz & Yulisa Leon.

Relative newcomers Valentina Feroz and Yulisa Leon were the first team to be eliminated, taking a pinfall loss shortly into the competition.

While Tatum Paxley has been looking to impress Diamond Mine’s Ivy Nile in recent weeks, her efforts came up short when she suffered the pinfall loss and caused her team to be eliminated next from the match.

This left the established team of Kayden Carter and Katana Chance to go up against two-time champions Toxic Attraction. Chance and Carter have been teaming together for the better part of two years and until tonight, tag team gold has been just out of their grasp. However, that changed as Katana Chance scored a pinfall victory over Toxic Attraction’s Jacy Jayne, scoring the win for her team and allowing them to become the new NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions.

Chance and Carter celebrated in the ring, partying as their theme music played.

While the situation with the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships was handled quickly, there is still no word on whether or not there will be new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions after Sasha Banks and Naomi were stripped of their titles following their walking out of Monday Night Raw. However, that could change amidst reports that Sasha and Naomi are on their way back to the company.
