First Participant Advances In AEW World Title Tournament

The AEW ‘Tournament of Champions’ has a it’s first semi-final matchup set.

During the 9/7 episode of AEW Dynamite, All Elite Wrestling President, Tony Khan addressed the fans and announced that the company’s World and Trios Titles would be vacated following the brawl between now-former World Champion, CM Punk and former World Trios Champions, Kenny Omega and Matt and Nick Jackson of The Elite.

Per his announcement, Khan revealed the ‘Tournament of Champions’ which began tonight when Bryan Danielson defeated ‘Hangman’ Adam Page to advance to the tournament’s semi-finals against inaugural champion, Chris Jericho.

The opening round matchups were Danielson vs. Page and Sammy Guevara vs. Darby Allin with the company’s first-ever champion, Chris Jericho, and most recent champion (before the CM Punk controversy), Jon Moxley earning themselves a bye into the semifinals.

  • Rampage (9/9) — Sammy Guevara vs. Darby Allin, Quarterfinals
  • Dynamite (9/14) — Bryan Danielson vs. Chris Jericho, Semifinals
  • Dynamite (9/14) — Guevara/Allin vs. Jon Moxley, Semifinals
  • Grand Slam (9/21) — Finals
