First Match For AEW Dynamite Grand Slam At Arthur Ashe Confirmed

Arthur Ashe Stadium

AEW announced the first match for their huge show in New York on September 22 at Arthur Ashe Stadium. At Dynamite: Grand Slam in two week’s time, Cody Rhodes returns to action to face Malakai Black.

Rhodes is looking to exact revenge on Black after he decimated him at Dynamite: Homecoming some weeks ago. After the match, The American Nightmare seemed to consider retirement but was attacked by a crutch-wielding Black and has not been seen since. During his absence, Black has continued to take out several members of the Nightmare Family including his brother Dustin.

The announcement came during this week’s edition of Dynamite, which also set up another potential match for the show in New York at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

MJF seething at his loss to Chris Jericho at All Out berated the Cinncinati audience, which included Brian Pillman Jr’s family. The verbal assault brought the second-generation star to confront MJF but received a beat down from Wardlow for his efforts. MJF then forced Pillman Jr to watch his tag team partner Griff Garrison also suffer the same fate.

Later in the show, Pillman Jr asked Tony Khan for a match against MJF at Grand Slam. However, Khan has not granted his request.
