First-Ever MMA Fight In AEW History Set For Dynamite

Wardlow AEW

AEW Dynamite will play host to the promotion’s first-ever MMA cage fight. Two of AEW’s biggest and most intense performers are set to do battle in an MMA-style fight on Dynamite.

On this week’s edition of AEW’s flagship show, the Inner Circle celebrated their victory over the Pinnacle at Double or Nothing in the Stadium Stampede match. The celebrations didn’t last long as each member made it clear that the feud between the two warring factions was far from over.

Chris Jericho called out MJF, Santana and Ortiz threw down the gauntlet to FTR, and Jake Hager challenged Wardlow to an MMA cage fight on Dynamite in two weeks.

This won’t be the first time the two big men have met inside an AEW ring. On night 1 of the New Year’s Eve Smash edition of Dynamite Wardlow defeated Hager, while they were members of the same stable. However, when they met again, this time inside an MMA cage, Hager will hold the advantage due to his legitimate fighting experience in Bellator.

Hager holds an impressive three-fight win streak in the MMA promotion in the heavyweight division. However, Wardlow is no stranger to the cage. His first ever match in AEW was against Cody Rhodes in a thrilling steel cage match back in February 2020. Rhodes emerged victorious in the match but the experience Wardlow gained inside the unforgiving structure could prove beneficial when he clashes with Hager once more.

The exact date for that week’s Dynamite is currently unknown, taking place on either Friday, June 18th or Saturday, June 19th. The following week’s Dynamite has already been confirmed for Saturday, June 26th with Kenny Omega defending his AEW Championship against Casino Battle Royal winner Jungle Boy being the only match announced so far.
