The ratings for the first ever episode of AEW Rampage have been revealed.
As reported by Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics, the debut episode of the show pulled in an average of 740,000 viewers.
The show scored a 0.30 rating in the 18-49 year-old demographic. That equates to 396,000 viewers.
Thurston also noted that SmackDown, which aired directly before Rampage, drew 2,084,000 viewers with 746,000 viewers in the 18-49 year-old demographic.
AEW Rampage kicked off in a huge way with Christian Cage defeating Kenny Omega for the IMPACT World Championship.
The victory marked the first time that Cage has held a World Championship of any description since 2011. On that occasion, the Canadian beat Randy Orton to claim WWE’s World Heavyweight Championship.
Omega appeared to have the match won following a vicious V-Trigger, but somehow Cage kicked out. It was then Christian’s turn to grab the momentum, gaining a couple of of near falls of his own. First with a Spear and then a Frog Splash. However, Omega survived.
As desperation crept in, the Young Bucks arrived with a chair as Don Callis distracted the referee, but Christian wasn’t to be denied. The former WWE Superstar tuned the tables on Omega hitting a Killswitch on the chair to grab the win.
The show was headlined by the AEW Women’s World Championship match between Britt Baker and Red Velvet.
The champion and ‘Brittsburgh native,’ was a clear favourite from the outset and entered the arena to a thunderous ovation from the home crowd. Despite a spirited effort from Red Velvet, Baker eventually proved to much for the challenger.
After the match, the champion decided to dish out some more punishment but was blindsided by Kris Statlander who had been watching from ringside. Just as Statlander got the upper hand she was also attacked by a mystery assailant.
While revelling the chaos, the mystery women removed her cap to reveal that she was none other than Jamie Hayter.
