WWE has a high-powered legal department that has carried the company through several controversial matters over the years. After a fan-favorite Superstar had his WWE career shut down by a former partner, the matter has continued to make its way through the courts, and now there’s a massive update from both fronts.
Odyssey Jones began his pro wrestling journey by signing with WWE in February 2019. The Brooklyn native debuted in NXT that November, but went on a 484-day hiatus until returning in July 2021, when he began working NXT TV, Level Up, Main Event, 205 Live, a few non-televised live events, as well as SmackDown dark matches. A January 2022 knee injury put Jones on the shelf for 9 months, which led to his NXT return and curious spot in the 2023 WWE Draft. The Syracuse University graduate was drafted to RAW in April 2023, but the red brand debut never came, and Jones didn’t return to TV until Superstar Spectacle in India that September, where he suffered a 4-minute loss to Bron Breakker. The 2024 Draft kept Jones on RAW, and he finally debuted months later to help The New Day in their feud with The Final Testament.
Jones made the save for Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods in early August, squashed an enhancement talent the following week, then teamed with Kofi and Braun Strowman to beat The Judgment Day at two live events. RAW on August 19, 2024 saw Jones and The New Day defeat AOP and Karrion Kross, and that was it for Jones’ WWE odyssey as domestic abuse allegations forced the company to abruptly pull him from the storylines, then fire him in early September.
The Future Favorite has vowed to fight the allegations and clear his name from day one. Shortly after the WWE release, Jones accused his former partner of abuse going back to 2023, including assault during a May 2024 cruise vacation, along with continued threats, stalking, and targeted harassment. After an argument over text messages, Nunez claims Jones slammed her to the ground, then threw objects at her. Jones denied the allegations, and later obtained an extended Order of Protection against the woman, who revealed herself in the media as Meileth Nunez. The protection order against Nunez was extended by a judge from January 6, 2025 through early 2028.
Now known as Oddyssey on the indies, the 31-year-old has been adamant about proclaiming his innocence, and made it clear he was taking indie bookings for this year. Jones has also publicly thanked WWE. His first post-WWE match came this past February, and he’s continued to work for promotions such as GCW, BRCW, 4th Rope, and ALW, among others. Jones is currently in Japan to work AJPW’s historic Oudou Tournament. Jones’ in-ring comeback began just a few weeks after he filed a defamation lawsuit against Nunez.
Nunez allegedly made false statements that caused his WWE release, according to the lawsuit filed by Jones earlier this year in Orange County, FL. Jones has alleged libel and slander, claiming Nunez falsely accused him of physical abuse, which brought on his WWE departure. Jones also accused his ex of making false written and verbal communications to TKO Group Holdings from May-July 2024, specifically alleging that he committed multiple non-sexual physical assaults. It was noted then that Jones, as he is a public figure, will have to prove malice by Nunez in accusing her of causing his WWE release.
Nunez has stood by her allegations, pointing to how she accused Jones of battery in a May 2024 police report. The claim issued in Maitland, FL includes photos of bruises on her shoulder and legs, allegedly caused by Jones, which he denied in the same report. Also in her legal response to the lawsuit in late February, Nunez told Jones’ lawyer that she planned to file a counter-claim, and an Order of Protection against her former partner.
Nunez warned Jones’ lawyer he was being misled by the former WWE Superstar in falsely stating he had filed a police report for harassment. She also claimed a TKO investigation found probable cause for Jones’ release, based on conduct, and said the defamation suit shows Odyssey has a “clear retaliatory motive” because he never took legal action until he lost his job with WWE. Nunez then dismissed the suit as Jones trying to “distort the truth in order to control the narrative and avoid accountability.”
The Maitland Police Department was contacted by POST earlier this year to inquire about Jones filing an earlier police report to accuse Nunez of stalking, which he referenced in court filings related to the petition for Order of Protection. The department said they had no record of Jones making a stalking claim against Nunez, and the only related report on file was from May 2024, when Nunez accused Jones of battery.
Reports from earlier this year noted that Odyssey Jones had asked for damages of more than $50,000 in his defamation lawsuit against former partner Meileth Nunez. However, Ringside News has obtained lawsuit documents that show Jones is seeking more than $100,000 for just slander. The documents also reveal how Jones recently subpoenaed WWE for a slew of internal documents as his defamation lawsuit against Meileth Nunez makes it way through the courts.
Jones’ legal team filed a subpoena on August 5, asking WWE and TKO to turn in all documents, records, and internal communications related to Jones’ time with the company. Odyssey, who WWE once had major creative plans for, is seeking all material related to the following: his hiring and release, internal investigations from May-July 2024, communications that directly mention Nunez, communications with the media about the Jones situation.
WWE attorneys had until the end of the month to comply. That same day, Jones was required to submit disclosure of evidence he is in possession of, and RSN indicates that this is a good sign WWE did hand over the documents listed on the subpoena. According to the filing, Jones already has documents related to the following: his WWE contract and termination letter, performance reviews, the WWE investigation, correspondence with Nunez including e-mails/voicemails and social media posts, screenshots of alleged defamatory statements by Nunez, plus proof of damages such as emotional distress, missed employment opportunities, lost income, among others.
WWE Documents Also Requested From Meileth Nunez
Odyssey Jones recently took his situation back to the media, but has also requested a slew of documents from Meileth Nunez, according to another court filing obtained by Ringside News. One day after the aforementioned filing, on August 6, Jones’ lawyers filed a Request for Production of Documents as they test claims made by Nunez, and her overall credibility, with an in-depth discovery process.
Nunez has 30 days to produce the requested documents. RSN adds that this shows a change to Jones’ legal strategy as he’s moved from defending himself to demanding accountability, and justice, from Nunez.
Jones’ attorneys have requested the following evidence from Nunez, related to the lawsuit: all WWE/TKO communications and internal reports; any incident reports or HR complaints filed with WWE/TKO about Jones; internal WWE/TKO communications or investigative reports into her allegations; all communications with any media mentioning Jones; all social media content mentioning Jones; records or any date to show if she was in the Orlando/Orange County area in May-July 2024; related police report or communications; media contracts or paid deals related to the allegations; past allegations against other people that would show a pattern; any photos/videos or audio that support her claims; related diaries, therapy notes, medical records, or other incident documents; photos, travel records, messages, or gifts that show the nature of their relationship; financial requests or settlement demands sent to WWE/TKO or Jones; legal and PR communications including any instructions from lawyer or publicist; details on any witnesses and their statements; any evidence to prove her claims; any public or private retractions or corrections she has made; and any additional documents she plans to use as a defense in court.

The complex discovery was described as a “classic pressure tactic” that will put the Nunez and her narrative under a microscope, according to Ringside News. Nunez was given 30 days to produce the material, and she could face sanctions if she fails to comply.
