With another Royal Rumble in the books, one man was conspicuous by his absence, and now Finn Balor has shed light on why he wasn’t a part of the show.
With thirty spots available in the men’s and women’s Rumble matches, the usual mix of familiar faces are usually joined by a few surprise entries in January’s event. In the case of the 2022 women’s Royal Rumble, thirteen women who were not part of the full-time WWE roster comprised the field with Ronda Rousey coming out on top.
In the men’s match, there was more familiarity with only Johnny Knoxville, Bad Bunny, and Shane McMahon not usually competing in the ring for the company.
One man that wasn’t a part of the event was former Universal Champion Finn Balor. Balor has been active on the red brand of WWE, most recently losing a match to Austin Theory on the 17th of January edition of Raw.
WrestleVotes reported that Balor’s absence was not down to injury and he was out of the country. The report also states that the company expects him back in action in plenty of time before WrestleMania 38.
Balor himself shared a photo on social media of himself outside the famous Temple Bar in Dublin, Ireland. Along with the photo is the rather hopeful caption of “30 Pints.”

The Irishman has so far only been a part of one Royal Rumble match in his seven-plus year career in WWE. That appearance came in 2018 when Finn Balor entered the match at number two and lasted over 57 minutes, making the final four before being eliminated by John Cena.
