Finn Balor hasn’t forgotten John Cena taking his SummerSlam Universal Title match and says he and Cena can settle the score between them at WrestleMania.
In the run-up to SummerSlam, Roman Reigns was planning to steer clear of the returning John Cena and instead accepted Finn Balor’s challenge for his WWE Universal Championship. As is custom, the contract between Reigns and Balor was to be signed in the ring and this is when things went south for the Irishman.
A luckless Baron Corbin interrupted proceedings and took Balor out to take the title match for himself as he desperately sought some happiness. John Cena then intervened taking out Corbin and taking the contract and title match for himself. John Cena was unsuccessful in his quest for his seventeenth world title in the main event of The Biggest Party Of The Summer as Reigns retained.
Now speaking to Liam Llewellyn of The Mirror, Finn Balor says he is coming after the Universal Title at Extreme Rules but he hasn’t forgotten about Cena and WrestleMania could be the perfect stage to face him:
“I can’t think of a better place to face John Cena than at WrestleMania. I’ve got a bone to pick with John, the SummerSlam main event was mine, my name was printed on the contract, however, John signed it. There’s certainly an issue that needs to be settled between me and John and if we can do that at WrestleMania all the better.”
“The thing I have learnt the most is five years ago I needed WWE and I needed to be champion, I needed to win. Now I don’t need WWE, I don’t need to be champion, I don’t need to win but I want to fight and I want to fight for not only the people who believed in me along the way but for all the people who didn’t believe in me along the way. Even after all my success on the independent wrestling scene, people told me ‘you’re not good enough to be a WWE champion, you’re not what they’re looking for.’ I want to prove all those people wrong and I’m coming after Roman Reigns and the Universal title.”
